Agenda

1. Meet, greet, & network (6 pm-6:45 pm)

2. Chapter business (6:45 pm to 7 pm)

3. Presentations (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.):

In this month’s presentation, we will discuss the value and the role of computer forensics in the corporate security program.

Justin Serrano, Information Security Manager at Old Dominion Freight Lines, will be our speaker. Justin is also a member of our chapter

Justin Serrano is an information security professional with real-world experience in both, the large enterprise and SMB arena. For more than a decade, he has worked across multiple disciplines garnering skills in the areas of securing networks, operational integrity, application and data access control, service delivery and protecting business assets both logical and physical. In addition, having held positions in the financial and health arenas, his proficiency covers a wide body of standards, best practices and regulations.

From a credential perspective, he holds a Master's in Information Security and Assurance, an undergraduate in education, and multiple network and security related certifications including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), GIAC Certified ISO-27000 Specialist, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Enterprise Disaster Recovery Professional (EDRP), Network+ and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). Justin is also a member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and the FBI's cyber division public-private program, Infragard.
.

Justin's discussion will provide our membership plenty to consider, particularly in light of all the data breaches over the past 12 months.

Among the questions you should see answered are the following:

  • When and why does a company need digital forensics expertise?
  • What are the trends in using forensics examination in a corporate environment?
  • Why choose between full time staff and task/event oriented consultant assistance?
  • What are the best practices for engaging a forensics resource through a retainer agreement?
  • What training/certifications are useful in vetting the skill set of a potential forensics examiner?

This is a great opportunity for our members to meet, network, and learn from other members and professionals in the community. Please be sure to register by clicking on the link below:

The Information Systems Security Association is a not-for-profit, international organization of information security professionals and practitioners. It provides educational forums, publications, and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill, and professional growth of its members.

The Triad of NC chapter provides a local resource for information security professionals to get together, learn new things, and develop relationships with others in the industry. If you are involved in information security, full or part time, or are simply interested in the subject, this organization is a great way to learn and grow.

The Triad of NC chapter meets the 4 Thursday of each month from January through October, the 3rd Thursday in November, and the 2nd Thursday in December.  The meeting venue usually alternates between ECPI in Greensboro and Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, but the venue may vary based on participation and sponsorship.
